It’s usually one or the other. You’re either representing the club as a board member or as a player. For 4th-year Paolo “Neutral” Angeo, he decided to do both. Now secretary for the club, he looks back on how he got here.

First things first, tell us about who Neutral is outside of the CSULB Esports & Gaming Association.

I’m a 4th year student majoring in Consumer Affairs. Early on in college, I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted and who I wanted to be, so I was switching majors a lot. Sometimes I still feel that way, but after joining the club and participating on a team, I realized I have a passion for competing and socializing with people who share the same interests.

Speaking of gaming, what got you started? And how did you get your IGN?

My cousins had a GameCube with Mario Kart Double Dash years ago. I was hooked instantly. Over time, my exposure to video games grew and eventually led me down this path. During the time when I was an Xbox 360 player and played a lot of Call of Duty, a lot of my teammates and opponents tried to have those “cool” sounding IGNs that were real words and such. And then the word “Neutral” came to me. Coincidentally, I feel like it reflects my personality too since I tend to be easy going.

Fast forward a while later and you join the club. What was the path you took within the club?

I initially joined as a player for Overwatch Team B (DPS player btw). Shortly after, I applied to be an intern for the Blizzard Branch, took over as the branch manager after the last one graduated, and here I am now. I try to take every opportunity that I can so when applications for internal board opened up, I knew that was one that I should go for.

What’s the transition been like, since you’re not really in charge of just one section of the club anymore?

It hasn’t been anything too crazy. I just have more responsibilities on my plate and being branch manager definitely helped me get a good idea on how to be a leader.

Now that  you’re part of internal board, what are some of your goals?

It’s pretty simple but I want the club to keep growing and I’d want to continue to make this club a safe place for all current and new members. If we could, I’d try to help find more ways to fundraise for the club and produce more media content either through YouTube or Twitch.

Since you’ll be graduating soon, where do you see the club after you leave?

I know that we have the potential to have the best competitive teams so I can see us making headlines in the future while also having one of the most welcoming communities on campus!

Thank you for your time! Do you have any final comments?

Thank you to everyone who attends our events and continues to support us. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for your participation and energy that you give us!
